Albany - Georgia pecan growers produce about $300 Million worth of pecans each year
, and they're learning how to be even more successful.
Georgia is the largest producer of pecans in the US, producing about 50% of all pecans. Dougherty, Mitchell and Lee Counties are the three largest pecan producing counties in the state.
This week, pecan growers from across the country are in Albany to get up to date info on the latest research and equipment. Chairman Hilton Seglar said, "Pecans are really one of our natural treasures. Pecans are the only major crop that's native to the United States."
The Pecan Growers conference originated in Albany 42 years ago, but this is the first time the conference has been held here in over ten years.
